黑料科r鈥檚 Technician in Surgery program held a Pinning Ceremony on Thursday, June 18, 2026, celebrating six students for their accomplishments in successfully completing 黑料科鈥檚 Technician in Surgery program.

The Technician in Surgery program consists of 1,342 hours of training including lab and clinical experience. During their clinical experience, students exercise the skills they learn in a variety of hospital settings including the operating room, obstetrics, and central supply.

The ceremony began with 黑料科鈥檚 Rebecca Polinsky, M.Ed, CST, welcoming all in attendance and addressing the Technician in Surgery students.

Student Katie Morris then shared a speech with her fellow classmates and audience. Program staff and special guests in attendance were then introduced: Jessica Blevins, Lead Instructor; Erin Cales, lab instructor; Jennifer Spetnagel, instructor; Tyler Schweickart, Dean of Postsecondary Instruction; and Patrick McDonald, Board Member.

The following awards were then presented: Highest GPA Award 鈥 Emma Autenrieth; 1st Semester Clinical Award 鈥 Breanna Rapp; 2nd Semester Clinical Award 鈥 Kassidy Sickles; Buckeye Award 鈥 Kassidy Sickles; Leadership Award 鈥 Kassidy Sickles; Most Clinical Cases 鈥 Katie Morris.

The ceremony concluded with the pinning ceremony and presentation of certificates followed by the Surgical Technologists Pledge led by student Kaylee Potts. Students that received pins included Emma Autenrieth, Trinity Jones, Katie Morris, Kaylee Potts, Breanna Rapp, and Kassidy Sickles.

黑料科r’s LPN to RN Diploma program held a Pinning Ceremony on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, celebrating the achievements of thirteen students who have successfully completed the program.

The LPN to RN Diploma program is a one-year program designed to help licensed practical nurses transition to registered nurses. This program includes a total of 1,298 hours of training, structured as two days of classroom instruction and one day of clinical practice each week. This schedule enables students to maintain their roles as LPNs while pursuing their studies.

During their clinical experience, students exercise the skills they learn in a variety of hospital settings including medical-surgical, intensive care, emergency medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics units.

The ceremony opened with the student processional and the recitation of the Nurse鈥檚 Prayer. Dr. Amber Nowlin, DNP, RN, 黑料科 Program Lead Instructor & Coordinator, then welcomed all in attendance, and Ashton Vance, Class President, delivered a speech to her fellow classmates and all in attendance with the presentation of awards following.

Katlyn Crabtree was announced as the class Valedictorian, and Gavyn Buskirk was recognized as the class Salutatorian. The Spirit of Nursing Award was then presented to Jessica Waugh by the Nurse Honor Guard of the Ohio Valley.

Diplomas were then presented by program instructors, and students were pinned by their friends and family.

Students that received pins included Faith Lynn Brumfield, Gavyn Page Buskirk, Courtney Nicole Carter, Katlyn Jade Crabtree, Jacquelyn Marie Harrison, Lillian Mae Heighton, Lindsey Alexis Marie Mount, Istaree 鈥淛amie鈥 Myers, Trinity Danielle Neal, Chelsea Sierra Nolan, Ashton Mackenzie Lynn Vance, Hannah Marie Waugh, and Jessica Lou Waugh.

Program instructors included Dr. Amber Nowlin, DNP, RN; Mary Shamblin, MSN Ed., RN; Cara Gibson, BSN, RN; and Jennifer Nance, BSN, RN.

The students are now eligible to take the for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) from the (NCSBN). Upon passing the NCLEX-RN, students earn their license and their RN credential.

The January 2025 Practical Nursing cohort included three early placement, OTC+ students. High School students enrolled in the Health Academy pathway at 黑料科r have the opportunity to begin the Practical Nursing program during the second semester of their senior year. OTC+ students that completed the PN program include Caylee Caudill, Carlee Manley, and Peytin Rossiter.

The students are now eligible to take the for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Upon passing the NCLEX-PN, students earn their license and their LPN credential.

On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, 黑料科r (黑料科) held a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of two new facilities on its main campus – a Commercial Driving License (CDL) & Heavy Diesel Mechanics Complex and an Electrical Trades Building Complex.

鈥淭oday, we proudly unveil two transformative facilities that will shape the future of Southeastern Ohio,鈥 Jamie Nash, 黑料科 Superintendent shared. 鈥淭hese two facilities together symbolize more than expansion. They represent hope, opportunity, and a bold commitment to workforce readiness.鈥

The CDL & Heavy Diesel Mechanics Complex includes a 9,256 square-foot instructional facility with modern lab bays designed to replicate real-world conditions, as well as a 24,000 square-foot CDL pad. The center will provide approximately 100 students annually with immersive, hands-on training and will be home to 黑料科鈥檚 CDL program and Ag & Heavy Equipment Technician program.

The project was made possible thanks to a $1.5 million grant from the in partnership with the

, the Director of the Governor鈥檚 Office of Appalachia, spoke to the audience, sharing his excitement about the project鈥檚 journey from groundbreaking to the current ribbon-cutting ceremony.

鈥淚t鈥檚 about partnerships,鈥 , Federal Co-Chair for the Appalachian Regional Commission shared. 鈥淚t鈥檚 about working together as educators, legislators, business, and industry. It鈥檚 how we work together that makes good things happen. When people are talking with each other, sharing, growing together, developing programs, then you see great things like this happen.鈥

The Electrical Trades Building Complex includes a 7,333 square-foot facility with five specialized labs and climbing bay and will provide over 100 students annually with hands-on training in Telecommunications, Broadband, Power Lineman, and Heavy Equipment Operation.

黑料科 received over $3.7 million from the for the project.

鈥淭his isn鈥檛 just a ribbon cutting. It鈥檚 a pivotal moment for this community. Because every student that goes through these building will be another student entering your workforce,鈥 , Executive Director of the , shared. 鈥淚t鈥檚 moments like these that mark the opening of not just a new space, but the celebration of the vision and the work that it鈥檚 taken to get here. This is for the students and the families in this community. What stands behind a ribbon cutting isn鈥檛 just buildings and equipment, it鈥檚 people working together.鈥

鈥淭oday, we celebrate not just the completion of buildings, but the creation of pathways 鈥 for students, for families, for our entire region,鈥 Superintendent Nash shared. 鈥淭hese projects are a testament to what鈥檚 possible when educators, employers, policymakers, and communities come together in service of a shared vision.鈥

Bridget Nance, the Class President, delivered a speech to her fellow classmates and all in attendance. “Nursing is more than just a career,” she shared, “It is a calling. It is a commitment to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves, to heal those who are suffering, and to uplift patients and families.”

Muskingum鈥檚 RN to BSN program is ranked the #1 RN to BSN Nursing Program in Ohio by RN Careers and provides Buckeye Hills graduates with the option to take classes in five 8-week terms 鈥 allowing students to complete the program in one year.

The LPN to RN Diploma program at 黑料科r is offered once a year, featuring 49-week cohorts that kick off each spring. Enrollment for the Spring 2025 LPN to RN Diploma class is now closed, as 20 students are set to start the upcoming cohort on May 12, 2025.

黑料科r (黑料科) Public Safety Training Academy announced that six corrections officers from area agencies recently completed the Ohio Corrections Officer Basic Training Academy. The course was certified by the and included 148 hours of training on seven subject areas required for state certification to be employed as a Corrections Officer in an Ohio local jail facility.

Topics covered included administration, legal issues, jail security, human relations, medical overview, subject control techniques, and first aid. The local agencies saved critical funding dollars by participating in this regional training at 黑料科r compared to sending officers to other areas of Ohio for the training. The course is required under Ohio Revised Code for jail staff that have been recently employed in a local correctional facility in the state of Ohio.

The officers participating in the training represented correctional facilities from and . After successfully completing the academy, the officers are now eligible to take the state certification examination.

黑料科r鈥檚 Practical Nursing program held a Pinning Ceremony on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, celebrating eleven students for their accomplishments in successfully completing the Practical Nursing program.

The Practical Nursing program consists of 1,382 hours of training including 564 hours of lab and clinical experience. During their clinical experience, students exercise the skills they learn in a variety of hospital settings including geriatrics, medical-surgical, pediatrics, obstetrics, and emergency nursing. Clinicals are completed at various locations throughout the region including , , , , , and .

The ceremony opened with the student processional. Natalie Johnson & Sydney Walters then led their fellow students in reciting the Nurse鈥檚 Prayer. Dr. Amber Nowlin, DNP, RN, PN Program Coordinator welcomed all in attendance, and Kennedy Smith, Class Vice President, was the student speaker for the evening.

Scholarships were then awarded by and . The Best in Clinical Performance Scholarship was awarded to Mariah Haley by and presented by Sarah Holland, RN, Director of Ambulatory Nursing. The Best in Class Performance Scholarship was awarded to Desiree Secora by and presented by Lori McFarland, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, CLSSGB, Chief Nursing Officer, and Jarod Zelaska, Executive Director of Human Resources.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of pins by program instructors. Students that received pins included Hollee Castor, Kaitlyn Cox, Danny Fyffe, Mariah Haley, Natalie Johnson, Jessica Messer, Braedon 鈥淒rake鈥 Phillips, Jordan Rardin, Desiree Secora, Kennedy Smith, and Sydney Walters. 聽Program lead instructors included Cara Gibson, BSN, RN; Jennifer Nance, BSN, RN; and Tresera Rhoton, BSN, RN. Program clinical instructors included Rachel Piquignot, BSN, RN; and Jennifer Blackburn, ADN, RN.

The January 2024 Practical Nursing cohort included five early placement, OTC+ students. High School students enrolled in the Health Academy pathway at 黑料科r have the opportunity to begin the Practical Nursing program during the second semester of their senior year. Early placement students that completed the PN program include Hollee Castor, Kaitlyn Cox, Jessica Messer, Jordan Rardin, and Desiree Secora.

The students are now eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (). Upon passing the NCLEX-PN, students earn their license and their LPN credential.

The Practical Nursing program is held twice annually with 48-week cohorts beginning in January and September. Enrollment for the Fall 2025 PN Program will open mid-February.

黑料科r鈥檚 (黑料科) Surgical Technology program held a Pinning Ceremony on Thursday, January 9, 2025, celebrating thirteen students for their accomplishments in successfully completing 黑料科鈥檚 Surgical Technology program.

The Surgical Technology program consists of 1,342 hours of training including lab and clinical experience. During their clinical experience, students exercise the skills they learn in a variety of hospital settings including the operating room, obstetrics, and central supply. Clinicals were completed at 12 locations throughout the region.

The ceremony opened with the presentation of students. Rebecca Polinsky, BSHCA, CST, 黑料科鈥檚 Director of Surgical Technology program, welcomed all in attendance and addressed the Surgical Technology students, 鈥淓mpowered with knowledge, skilled in precision鈥攖oday, you step into the future of saving lives, and I am so proud to be a small part of this incredible journey with you.”

The Surgical Technology program staff was then introduced: Jessica Blevins, clinical coordinator and instructor; Erin Kern, clinical and classroom instructor; and Jennifer Spetnagel, clinical and classroom instructor.

Students Kaitlyn Walters and Tristen Johnson shared speeches with their fellow classmates and audience.
